COULD SANCHEZ BE A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION AT WINTER MEETINGS?

It isn't so far fetched that the Yankees could be contenders for a new catcher and Gary Sanchez could receive his walking papers. With the Winter Meetings a week away, the hot stove is heating up with some deals being done before the highly anticipated baseball conference that gives general managers face time with one another.

According to Jon Heyman, "After disbanding their stellar outfield last offseason, the Miami Marlins have one more star left to sell. Given the scarcity of elite catchers, J.T. Realmuto could become the winter's hottest commodity." Realmuto hit .277 with 21 homers, 74 RBIs and was an All-Star in 2018.

"Gary Denbo, the Marlins’ vice president of player development and scouting, is high on catcher Gary Sanchez and first baseman Greg Bird from his days working in the Yankees’ minor league system," reported the NY Post earlier this week. Sanchez batted .186 with 18 homers and 53 RBIs, and led all MLB catchers with 18 passed balls. He only played 89 games and ended up on the disabled list twice with groin injuries. He's also been labeled as a non-hustler. I'd say let him go!

Yet, Brian Cashman is insistent that Gary Sanchez will return in 2019 and have a positive impact on the team who looking to topple the Boston Red Sox from the helm of the AL East. Folks close to the deal think that it isn't serious, but you never know. Sanchez most definitely will be discussed at the Winter Meetings. With his numbers such a disaster both on the offense and defensive side, he should be discussed and maybe a change could help his career soar.

There is no doubt that the Yankees need to unload those players that are underperforming and therefore not contributing to the team. Guys like Sonny Gray, Greg Bird and yes, even Gary Sanchez should be topics of discussion. They could find that playing for another team other than the New York Yankees will bring them the career they want and they deserve. Hey, some guys are not cut out to be Yankees. It's not personal, it's baseball.
