YANKEES NEED TO MAKE SOME MAGIC HAPPEN

As you know, Jordan Montgomery is out for season-ending Tommy John surgery so the question is now what?  According to ESPN, "With Montgomery lost for the season, it reinforces the belief the Yankees will look to add a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. They already needed another pitcher due to inconsistent starts from some of the arms in their rotation." The loss of Montgomery is a real loss for the Yankees and will negatively impact the Yankees going forward unless they do something.

The Yankees are no stranger to pitching woes and have suffered mightily over the last few seasons.  Sonny Gray was supposed to fix things a bit but that hasn't happened.  And CC Sabathia, who hasn't won since April 29th until last night, hasn't performed like the anchor we need him to be.  As much as I want Domingo German to get his break, I just don't think he has what it takes.

According to CBS Sports, "German burst onto the scene with a terrific outing roughly a month ago, but he's allowed 19 earned runs across 21 innings over four starts since then. His grasp on a rotation spot could be slipping, but he'll have another chance to right the ship this weekend against the Mets."

Fans have been Tweeting me and texting me about next steps.  One fan suggested that Cole Hamels is past his prime and not worth the trouble.  Another thinks we need to consider Adam Warren as a starter and bypass German completely.  I think we need to pick up someone up at the trade deadline because we can't continue to be like this.

The Yankees play one more in Toronto before heading to Citi Field to play against cross town rivals the Mets and then welcome in the second place Washington Nationals next week.  The pitching concerns are real and will continue unless the Yankees figure out how they are going to handle the rotation holes they have.  Whether they trade or bring in some more youth, they have to make some magic happen, otherwise they will be at a severe disadvantage come the All Star Break.
