DRURY IS DOWN IN THE DUMPS

It's hard to say "I miss Brandon Drury" right now. The guy I thought was going to really improve the Yankee infield and finally be that everyday player has been stashed down in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre not because his numbers suck post injury but someone else just happens to be a better option.

That someone else is Miguel Andujar who is playing like an absolute beast.

How do you send a guy down when he has a .305 BA and 21 doubles? He's been on a hot streak that shows no signs of slowing. The guy is hot and enjoying life on the big league roster, Drury on the other hand sounds like he is really struggling with the reality that he is good but not good enough to send him back to the big leagues.

The New York Post got it right. As the Yankees continue their hot streak and the baby bombers continue to impress guys like Drury move further into no-man's land. The Yankees talent is so deep, that guys like Drury who have a .324 BA are not playing in the Bronx. Instead he is watching Yankee games and staying motivated and waiting to get his chance to return to the big leagues.

I can understand why Drury says he "wasn't happy about it" when he found out after completing his minor-league rehab stint that he was staying down in Triple-A. It's been a long road of getting a chance to play in the big leagues and then be blocked by someone else.

That's one reason he came to the Yankees. We needed a third baseman and weren't ready to commit to Andujar yet. Meanwhile, Drury was playing several positions with the Diamondbacks but not getting an everyday role at his best position.

Third base is his best position, but another guy in Arizona was just that much better named Jake Lamb. If you are familiar with Lamb then you also know he is a young, dynamic player who the Dbacks rely on. His is in the heart of the order who has power and Dbacks fans and guys in the organization love him. There was no way Drury was going to dethrone Lamb, so that's how he came here.

So is Andujar the Yankees Jake Lamb? It sure seems like it. It sucks that he came here for an everyday opportunity and he's blocked yet again....but that's the game. There is always someone else out there who is ready to take your spot. At least he has the right attitude though because I do think he is right when he said “but this is going to make me better. Just gotta keep doing what I can do right now, be back up soon.”

Do I think this is the end of Drury? No. I think he has the ability and talent to be an everyday guy and he can play third but maybe it's not with us. Either way, this is a good problem to have and everything has a way of working itself out. I guess we will have to see what happens to him but I don't think we have seen the last of him.
