WHO'S DIGGING SONNY GRAY RIGHT ABOUT NOW?

You digging him? I know I am.  I mean, he's got good stuff and he's been a pleasure to watch. He's passionate on the mound. He shows emotion and most of all, his work is quality.

Dan Martin of the New York Post wrote a great piece about him.  I wanted to share a portion here on BYB:

"Sonny Gray allowed just two singles in the first three innings of the Yankees’ 9-1 win over the Orioles on Thursday.

It was what he did in the next three innings that really stood out to Joe Girardi, though — and even to Gray.

After allowing a double to Adam Jones and walking Trey Mancini with two outs in the fourth, Gray struck out Chris Davis. In the fifth, Caleb Joseph doubled with two outs and Tim Beckham walked before Gray got Manny Machado to ground out.

Finally, with runners on first and second and two outs in the sixth, Mark Trumbo hit a grounder to short, but Didi Gregorius made an error, giving Baltimore its lone run of the afternoon."

And in short... it's about the jams, and getting out of them, and that proves a solid pitcher. Because if he's figuring it out at this age, he could be a truly great pitcher over time in his career and with the Yanks, and that's exciting to me.

And I leave you with this quote from Gray about last night's game:

"It was definitely nice to take the mound with a three-run lead, but what was more impressive and what I was really happy about was we didn’t just stop... We kept putting pressure on them. … [But] me and Romine tried to pitch to our game plan, no matter the score.”

That's teamwork folks... something we are seeing more and more from this Yankee team. And it's awesome!
