THE YOAN MONCADA SWEEPSTAKES HEAT UP

The Red Sox and the Yankees have been the teams that have literally been "all in" in the pursuit in 19 year old Cuban infielder Yoan Moncada.  That was until now...

It turns out the San Francisco Giants have made a significant move based on their interest. According to Baseball America's Ben Badler, who's been the guy doing top notch reporting on Moncada:

"Count the Giants in when it comes to the teams pursuing Yoan Moncada. The Giants, Baseball America has learned, have already held a private workout for Moncada, a 19-year-old infielder drawing widespread interest around the league.

Several sources have said the Giants have been trying to get more involved in the Cuban market, with the push coming at the ownership level. If the Giants were able to sign Moncada, he would immediately become their top prospect—and one of the top prospects in all of baseball..."

Here's the thing, and it's worth noting and we've been noting it for weeks here at BYB. Yoan can't negotiate with teams yet..

"...According to Hardball Talk, "he has not received official clearance from the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control and won’t be able to start negotiating with teams until he gets that clearance."

It's a waiting game for the Yankees... which is why the Yankees, and other teams have been waiting to sign him.  Let's hope the Yanks are all over this kid when he does post. I'd like for us to snag him.

We shall see...
