WHY WE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL

Could you imagine if the Yankees traded Jesus Montero to Seattle for Cliff Lee at the trade deadline last July? We could likely be seeing the same scenerio that we saw this winter with Lee signing with Philadelphia anyway and we would have lost Montero and had a few month rental in Lee. In the end, we would have lost big.

Say what you will about Cliff Lee, I'm the first to say he's a gamer and one of the best pitchers in a majors right now, but youth and prospects is also a delight and if things went down the way they should have with Seattle, God knows what we would be feeling right now. Probably empty AND pissed.

Cashman was interviewed by Larry Stone of the Seattle Times and said this about the bungled trade:

"Now I'm like, I've got one of the premier hitting talents here, and I didn't have a two-month rental."

God works in mysterious ways sometimes, doesn't he? Realize this, we actually didn't get screwed last summer, we got lucky.
