EURY PEREZ CLAIMED BY THE BRAVES

Remember late last season when the Yankees claimed Eury Perez from the Nationals?  He was a young speedy outfielder and at the time, we wrote DON'T WORRY, WE GOT EURY PEREZ!

That was followed with the guy playing 4 games for the Bombers and in one of them, he made a bigger error in the outfield. It didn't matter, the season was lost anyway.  Sadly, that's the only thing I remember from the guy.  I'm sorry about that actually.

Well today, he was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves.

In case you didn't know, Perez was put on waivers when the Yankees signed Stephen Drew.  Now... he's gone.

Just wanted to let ya'll know.

NOT OUR DAY

You ever wake up late for work, miss the bus, it's pouring and you don't have enough money for the bus ride into the city? Then, you get to the city, get splashed by a puddle and realize you forgot your wallet?  That was the Yankees today. It started with Masahiro Tanaka... and continued to get worse after that...

Tanaka didn't have it today. What are you gonna do?  Hey, if we were in a pennant race, I'd be worried. Let the guy have a bad outing.  From everything I read, his arm is fine. Tanaka went only 1.2 innings, gave up 7 runs on 7 hits, 5 of those runs were earned. Preston Claiborne gave up 2 more... and Bryan Mitchell gave up the Sox 10th.

The Yanks scored 4, and only came alive in the 7th.  By then it was way too late. There were 3 errors by the Yankees, including throwing errors and a dropped ball by Eury Perez.  We left 9 on base.  We didn't seem like a very good club at all and I guess that's why we didn't make the playoffs, huh?

The irony of it all, was while the rest of the team just didn't have it,  Stephen Drew had 2 RBIs today when he hit a grounds-rule double in the 8th.  Other than that, and the amazing ovation and chant the Red Sox fans gave to Derek Jeter today... that was it:



I appreciate what the Sox fans have been doing the last few days and I have a theory to why they are chanting for Jeter. It's respect. Think about it.  This is a guy the Sox were in a heated rivalry with for years.  Jeter would compete hard against the Sox.  The Sox fans remember that.  The Sox fans respect that. They respect Jeter for his dedication to the game.  This was a guy they wanted to beat badly, but it didn't always work out the Sox way.  That being said, it didn't always work out our way either.  It was a tough give and take, and Jeter was there for most of it.  Sox fans remember that.

Jeter was part of the rivalry when it was extremely tense... and looking back, it was great time in sports.  Today though... today, the Sox fans impressed me yet again.  I tip my cap... Thanks for being so good to our Captain!

WINNING ONE FOR THE CAPTAIN AT FENWAY

First off, hats off to the Red Sox fans and Fenway Park.  We've been rivals for years, but what you did for Derek Jeter last night, the chanting of "Der-ek Jet-er" was amazing and personally gave me chills.



I Thank you... we thank you. We're all baseball fans, and it was never more evident to me than last night.

After the walk off win at Yankee Stadium the other night, there isn't much more to talk about.  Yes, the Yankees won, but as you know... it doesn't matter.  Still fun to watch of course.

The Yankee lineup was weird, but we won, and with just 2 games to go... it is what it is.

The Yanks scored 2 runs in the 3rd.  Francisco Cervelli singled knocking in Eury Perez. Shortly after, John Ryan Murphy was forced out, but there was a throwing error, so Murphy reached first and Cervelli scored.

In the 6th Zelous Wheeler sac flied, and Murphy scored.

Chris Capuano pitched well, going 6.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run.  David Robertson got his 39th save, and 40 is right around the corner, a huge accomplishment, but according to what he said to MLB, he's downplaying it a bit:

"Forty is just a number to me... The biggest thing for me personally, if I was 35-for-35, that's what I would want to be. I don't want to be the guy who lets people down."

Gotta love this kid.

Derek Jeter did not play. He got a day off and that's allowed.  Maybe he'll DH today... we will see.

Nice win for the Yanks with an unusual line up.  2 more left... Masahiro Tanaka throws today.

DON'T WORRY, WE GOT EURY PEREZ!

Just wanted to mention a minor move the Yankees made. 

According to Hardball Talk, the Yanks have claimed Eury Perez off of waivers from the Washington Nationals.

"Designated for assignment by the Nationals last week, 24-year-old outfielder Eury Perez has been claimed off waivers by the Yankees.

Perez struggles to control the strike zone and lacks power, but he’s hit .310 with 63 stolen bases in 193 career games at Triple-A. And overall in the minors he’s hit at least .300 in each of the past three seasons."

Meh. Not overly excited about this, but I can see this guy contributing at some point. He young, he's got the energy, the speed and I'm on board I think.  If the Yanks think he can help the club, I'm willing to welcome Perez.
