A ton of Yankee fans don't like IKF. I am not one of them.
But with nearly the entire fan base hoping he gets traded, I think the Yankees are in a situation where maybe it would be better to get him out of the Bronx. Sadly, that's not his fault. We have guys like Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe coming up behind him, and for the most part, he really isn't what Brian Cashman said he was. He is not a top shortstop and his defense isn't exactly amazing. He is a hitter, not a homer run hitter, but singles, doubles, he puts the bat on the ball, more than alot of guys. But that's not enough for Yankee fans who want perfect players.
There's more to it though. It almost feels uncomfortable now and IKF and his family doesn't deserve that. Remember, this all started coming to a head around mid-season last year when his father received the most offensive thing you could ever send to a parent. NJ.com's Brendan Kuty reported this last year:
"...a fan sent a direct message to his father on Twitter — a photo of the shortstop with haunting words under it: “IKF SHOT DEAD IN THE BRONX.”Since then it hasn't been a pleasant experience for this guy. Here's the thing, IKF has a dream come true. He's a Yankee. Has he has said “This is my dream team. This is everything I’ve ever wanted in my life."
Now the Dodgers have an opening at shortstop that they weren’t expecting to have. The Yankees wouldn’t ask for much in return for IKF as it would more be a salary dump for the Yanks who could save $6 million by trading him away."
