THAT'S FIVE IN A ROW FOR THE BOMBERS

Source: NJ.com

I almost had to pinch myself when I realized that the Yankees actually won five games in a row with their 5-4 comeback victory in Saturday's contest against the Seattle Mariners. Now, I have had my druthers with this Yankee team and I have been vocal about it. Recently, you may recall, DO THE YANKEES HAVE ALL THE RIGHT PIECES TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS? and earlier this week, YANKEES POSTSEASON IS HARD TO VISUALIZE. And if that five in a row is something for you to celebrate, I would like to add they are only five games out of first place as we approach the second week of August.

"With their 31st comeback win of the season, the Yankees inched closer to the final playoff spot in the American League, getting within one game of the Athletics (who played Saturday afternoon against the Rangers) for the final wild-card spot," reported The New York Post

As they Yankees climb back toward the top of the heap in the AL East, it is not without pressure, injuries and a lot of smack talk from the media, who continue to predict the fate of players like Aaron Judge. Aroldis Chapman is the latest man down, with elbow inflammation. But stepping in and stepping up is Jonathan Loaisiga whose perfect ninth inning in Saturday's win helped the home team to victory. And although Andrew Heaney gave up four runs early, he did shut down the Mariners as the Yankees' offense heated up. The Yankees' newest starter is still adjusting to the East Coast after being picked up as the trade deadline expired. These events are just a little glimpse into the Yankees ascent to the Postseason.

But none of this clawing back into contention is without criticism and predictions from the field, which includes the fate of Aaron Judge. "Yet perhaps when the dust settles on the 2021 season, there might be an aspect of the (Joey) Gallo acquisition that many Yankee fans may not like: The chances of Aaron Judge being a Yankee long term just took a big hit," reported SB Nation

Recall that Judge will be a free agent following the 2021 season and the question even before Gallo's acquisition is will the Yankees re-sign Judge? I say with all certainty- Yes! They re-sign him because he is more than an outfielder, and slugger, he's the face of the franchise. And he filled a huge void when Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez hung up their cleats. Plus what would the Yankees do with the real estate in the stands behind right field. Will it be renamed Gallo's Chambers? Absolutely not!

Let's put all of this aside and just relish in the moment that the Yankees won five in a row and are seeking their sixth win and a sweep of the Mariners who are also pushing their way back into contention as well. Following Sunday's game, the Yankees head to Kansas City and then to the highly anticipated Field of Dreams game against the red hot Chicago White Sox. A lot to celebrate Yankee fans...let's focus on the battle not the side talk so that we can win the war!
