WITH NO LEMAHIEU, YANKS HAVE NO SHOT AT A WORLD SERIES TITLE IN 2021

Bottom line, the New York Yankees don't have the make up to win without a table setter like DJ LeMahieu and that's what made them special when the had him. They were close.

The only thing the Yankees need this offseason is 1 starting pitcher and 1 DJ LeMahieu.

If they were smart, they would open their wallet for DJ right now. And this is common sense. Why? I'll tell you why... because half the league is interested is DJ LeMahieu because he makes things happen on the field. They will give him whatever they can to get them to their cities because they know he will provide stability at the plate, runs and wins. Bottom line... and I'll say it again... With no LeMahieu, the Yankees will have no shot at a World Series title in 2021.

This comes from NJ.com's Randy Miller who is quoting Bob Nightengale from USA Today for whatever reason, but it's accurate. Read this:

"According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the sides are one year and $25-million apart on an agreement.

”He wants five years, $100 million,” Nightengale said Friday night on MLB Network’s Baseball Tonight. “The Yankees are more interested in four years around $75 million. They can split the difference.”

I don't love Bob's snuggling up to the Astros and to players just to get the story, but in this instance, everything I've been reading and hearing on the inside seem to match Bob.

But look, there are more teams out there that want this guy, and the fear is they snatch him up. And then what happens? Well, they don't have a make up better than the Yankees, so for DJ and for a team like the Blue Jays, I don't think they have the same shot. I'm telling you, having DJ in New York with 1 new starting pitcher is what we need with the make up of our team already. We can win with that.

And what if he goes to the Mets? Sports Illustrated writes:

"The Mets appear to be interested in, well, virtually every marquee free agent since Steve Cohen became their owner."

Steve Cohen wants to make a big splash, but what a waste for DJ... that team doesn't have a shot.

Even Yankee players were fond of this dude. He's a big clubhouse guy because he may not talk a lot, but he's a leader and does a lot on the field, leading by example. Clint Frazier says:

“I need DJ to come back because he and I just started developing a good relationship,’’ Frazier said on Bucky Dent’s “Deep to Left” podcast. “By that I mean pouring information into your head, having a lot more in-depth conversations.”

“He offered for me to be his shadow,’’ Frazier said of what LeMahieu told him this year."

The bottom line? You as Yankee fans know all this already. Brian Cashman has to look at what he has on this team and know that production came from DJ LeMahieu's bat the most.

Now look, this is a negotiation. DJ wants 5 years, I'd give him that. He wants $100 million because he knows he's worth it... and you know what? He also knows the Yankees have it.  If the Yankees are at 75... I got up to 85. If DJ wants 95... You go up to 90... and then you wait. That's fair.

But in the end, DJ is a necessity. We've seen it... and the Yankees? They can afford him.

Do it Cash. Do it.

  1. Why does everyone blame Cashman? He isn’t the owner who signs the checks. If he doesn’t get signed maybe we should start blaming ownership not the GM. He only does what he’s told to do.

  2. We don’t need a nightingale to tell us Yankee fans about DJ. You know Cash and Hal will take care of DJ! He’s not going anywhere! You can take it to the Bank....

  3. Yanks would be crazy NOT to re-sign DJ. For one they would NOT win AL East or advance to Playoffs; two: fewer fans would attend games; and three: Yankee fans would never forgive Hal!
