THE REALITY THAT THE YANKEES HAVE TO FACE STARTS NOW!

As if 2020 wasn't bad enough already....but now we have another disappointing and frustrating postseason loss. It's almost impossible for me to put the 2021 season into focus as I sit here and think that the Rays and the Astros are playing in the ALCS. The baseball villains with their regular season losing record are playing for a chance to win the World Series. I could hurl right now.....

But I refuse. So the only thing I can do is just think about 2021. If he Yankees want to win it's time to get down to business, look in the mirror and realize the clock is ticking. Here's what I mean....

The Yankees still have not reached the World Series with there once was young core. Yes, I say once was because the reality is, it's not as young anymore. The window of opportunity to win it all with the young core will be gone, very soon.

Reality is calling:
Aaron Judge: free agent after 2022
Gary Sanchez: free agent after 2022 (and honestly, it's time to move on in my opinion)
Luis Severino: free agent after 2022 (with a club option for 2023)
Chad Green: free agent after 2022

The window to win is closing in on the Yankees....and they have some holes to fix just to win with the above mentioned core. These guys are key, but we are missing some depth and not just starting pitching depth but, we'll just leave it at this for now.

As much as I love Gerrit Cole, he can't do it all. Even if Masahiro Tanaka does come back and play for us he is not a top of the rotation starter anymore. The Yankees need another good #2 pitcher and there is one out there, but it's still complicated.

It's time to get serious about Trevor Bauer. He has a troubled history with Cole, but this is a business and let's face it....the Yankees could really use him. He will be the most sought after pitcher, especially after his 1.73 ERA this season which will likely earn him his first Cy Young award. He and Cole may not be best friends anytime soon, but I am sure they would like each other better if they won a World Series ring together instead of pitching against one another. Bauer already seems to be thinking about it.

The Yankees pitching depth needs to be addressed if they want to be playing deep into the next postseason. After Cole, it is a giant question mark. Severino will be back at some point, but he's missed a lot of time due to Tommy John. Similar story for Domingo German, he's been away from the game for too long thanks t his suspension.

We all want to see the Yankees win, and the window to do it cheaper with our once young core group of guys is quickly fading. The Yankees need to make the most of these next two years. That may sound like a lot of time but it really isn't. I think Bauer needs to be a part of the new plan.

We're all tired of losing, the clock is ticking to get that 28th ring. Now it really is a race and we don't have the luxury of time to waste.
