THE YANKEES NEED A BACKUP CATCHER

So far this off-season everything seems to be falling in place for the Yankees besides one thing. In order to really round out the edges of the current roster, a back up catcher is definitely needed despite reports that Kyle Higashioka is the guy.

It is no question that Gary Sanchez will begin the 2020 season with his incredible skill as a catcher and as a hitter. But, every position needs a backup.

Brian Cashman as well as the front office have expressed that they believe Kyle Higashioka can handle the job. He did play 18 games for the Yankees last season and showed promise. However, at 29 it might be unlikely that he can improve enough to be a starter over Sanchez.

It would be great to think the Yankees could solely rely on Sanchez for the season, but we all know he's injury prone. Last season, he played 106 games. So any backup catcher would have to play around 50 games this season.

The challenge right now is that the free agent market for catchers is very small, meaning the Yankees probably won't get someone too great.

Do you think the Yankees should stick with Higashioka, or try and find someone new?
