Everybody loves Gerrit Cole. Even the two young ladies who risked their entry to any MLB park in the future by lifting up their shirts in hopes of catching the young pitcher's eye, love him. He's a competitor. He's a rock star pitcher. And he's a Yankee fan.
"Imagine Cole, who grew up a Yankees fan in Southern California, fulfilling a childhood fantasy and heading a pinstriped rotation. Alas, the imagination can send Cole many places," reported the NY Post. But being a Yankees fan may not be enough to sign Cole, who clearly will be the loftiest free agent signing in 2020.

"Cole’s next meaningful pitch will come on Opening Day 2020, with him as the owner of a contract likely to land in the $250 million to $300 million range," reported the NY Post. Teams like the Angels, Dodgers or even his current team, the Astros all will likely bid for him. As a California native, Cole could choose to stay home and play local, but maybe he'd like to wear the interlocking NY across his cap as a player instead of just a fan.

"The Yankees hardly stand as an organization in crisis; to the contrary, they own a strong nucleus and advanced to Game 6 of the American League Championship Series before getting ousted by this ridiculously loaded Astros team. Their brand, however, is built on winning championships, and a sizable portion of their fan base is nauseatingly spoiled to the point of viewing joyrides like 2019 as a failure," reported the Post.
Do the Yankees put all their chips in and go for it? I think so. The championship drought feels a lot more uncomfortable this fall. The Winter Meetings will be here before we know it. Cashman has to close a deal with Cole. It is just that simple.
