"Boone said, though Bird was healthy enough to play, he wanted the 26-year-old’s swollen right elbow to have one more day of recovery. Bird, who was hit with a pitch on the elbow Wednesday, will play in Sunday’s spring training finale against the Twins at Ft. Myers, Boone said," as reported by NJ.com.

Listen, I don't have any ill will toward Bird. It is business. And we need the best guy in the line-up at DH or first base. This guy has to be Voit, based on his performance and quite frankly, the energy he brings to the team.
This spring, "Voit has hit .293 with four homers and 12 RBI in 15 games and 41 at-bats. Bird has hit .333 with three homers and eight RBI in 17 games and 39 at-bats. He’s also drawn 11 walks to Voit’s five. Voit took the job from Bird late last season. He hit 14 homers and 33 RBI with a .333 average in 39 games," reported NJ.com.
Earlier in the week, "Aaron Boone called it a “very good possibility” that both Greg Bird and Luke Voit are on the Opening Day 25-man roster. Brian Cashman said Tyler Wade “probably makes the club,” reported The New York Post.
The Yankees can take both first basemen and Wade, but if Wade and Bird play like they did last season, there should be a zero-tolerance policy enforced. It is a long season and the Yankees need to win as many games as possible, early and often. They can't lose games to bad teams like they did last season and they have to win or split series with the best teams. It is just that simple. If Bird can't keep up, he has to go.
