That's right, both Greg Bird and Michael Pineda will have season ending surgery. For Bird it's his ankle. For Pineda, it's Tommy John surgery.
ESPN has the Bird info:

'It's really tough to get on track when you missed two really whole years,' Girardi said before the Yankees lost 4-2 to the Twins Monday."
And then there is Pineda, and the New York Daily News has that:

Pineda received the initial recommendation to receive the season-ending surgery, but it was confirmed Monday by Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek, the team said.
The starter has a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow and a flexor tendon strain...."
All of it sucks, and the Yankees just keep slowing down due to losses, injury, and surgery all over the place. You gotta wish these guys well, but to be honest, things just keep getting worse, not better.
Get well soon.
