Don't mess with Yankee execs... they will punish you if you do.
Great little nugget about prospect Jorge Mateo. The New York Post has the story:
"According to a source with knowledge of the situation top Yankees
prospect Jorge Mateo expressed his displeasure about not getting
promoted from Single-A Tampa to Double-A Trenton but there were
indications that might not have been the reason the infielder was hit
with a two-week suspension that was announced Wednesday night.
Because he will be suspended, Mateo will not participate in the
Futures Game this Sunday in San Diego. News of the suspension was
delivered through the Yankees public relations department and general
manager Brian Cashman wasn’t available to comment on the situation."
We all get frustration. Sometimes we think we are doing better than we are. Sometimes when it comes to teams, there are far too many players and contracts to think about and sometimes guys like Mateo don't get what they think they deserve. It's a tough, tough business.
My own son deals with it with his team sometimes. He thinks he's having a good streak and asks me, "Shouldn't I deserve to play an extra inning next game?" I just tell him to keep working, and sooner or later (you hope), hard work is earned.
Now we don't know the Mateo situation 100% here, but I haven't heard of this kid being a trouble maker before. You have to assume if he did mouth off, it was merely frustration and it's long over.
Anyway, interesting nugget and we wanted to share it.
