CANO SAYS HE'S FINE IN SEATTLE

Sports fans are a funny breed. We love and hate deeply. We root hard for our teams. And we never forget. We can hold grudges like nobodies business. Robinson Cano is completely aware of this.

The 2015 season was not kind to Cano. He suffered a parasite, and a sports hernia, having surgery in October for the latter. With a number of struggles came rumors that Cano was unhappy in Seattle. Rumors from a "source" that is part of Cano's "inner circle." The rumors even started speculation that Cano was more than willing to come back to the Bronx. So what was the next step for Cano?

Deny, deny, deny! Obviously!

In a report in the Daily News, Cano says

"I don't want to comment on that because I don't want to make a big deal about it. Whoever says that, I don't know why they say that."

He went on to say that he is '100% happy' in Seattle, and cannot wait for the new season to start.

Right... Of course he's happy in Seattle. What Cano did here? It's smart! Again, the 'rumors' about his unhappiness are just that. Rumors. And we could speculate over the reasons why we think he's miserable in Seattle. But ultimately, they're just rumors. So Cano does what anyone in his position should do. He reassured the fans that he is happy playing for their team.

Let's face it, if he would have said anything but that, next season would be miserable for him. The fans would make absolutely sure of that. Fans are not a forgiving breed, and going into the next season with even a small indication that a player is unhappy with our team, our city? That's the perfect recipe for bad blood. So he quashed those rumors as swiftly as he could.

If he is genuinely happy in Seattle, then good on him. But, even with him denying the rumors, there will always be that question in fans minds. Personally, as a Yankees fan and a huge fan of Cano, you've got to wonder if the second baseman isn't missing the roar of the crowd over on 161st Street just a little bit. It's okay to miss us, Robbie. There's no place like New York. It'll be our little secret.
