3 YANKEES BECOME FREE AGENTS
Well, it's started. The first of the free agents have emerged and from at least 2 of them... Yankeeland is happy to see them go. Chris Capuano, Stephen Drew and Chris Young have become free agents, according to the Yankees.
But what does it mean? Well, technically they don't walk away from the Yankees yet. Right now the Yankees have exclusive rights to re-negotiate contracts with them. Then on Saturday, they'd be free to walk away. Some Yankee fans would like to push Drew and Capuano out the door. I get that. Capuano just could not get it together this season and was no where near effective. He earned a terrible 7.97 ERA in 22 games.
Stephen Drew proved 1 thing, he can hit home runs, in between him sucking the life out of me every single game. He was sold to us as a great defensive infielder, but even that wasn't exactly proved to be true. Over all, it was not a good signing, even if Cashman still thinks it is. Drew batted .201 with 17 home runs and 44 RBIs. Unreal.
Chris Young did better than expected for the Yankees this season. He was streaky, but when he was on, he was definitely on and did everything we could have asked from him. Young batted .252 with 14 homers and 42 RBIs.
Personally, if we needed him, I'd re-sign Young if he was interested in coming back. If not, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. There was plenty of young guys chomping at the bit to play in the Bigs with the Yanks. Aaron Judge, Mason Williams, Slade Heathcott. I'd love to see one of those guys take his place. That being said, I liked Young.
At any rate, things are starting now that the World Series is over and the Royals are World Champs. More to come? No doubt.
