and no, you don't need protection for that.
The Yankees and the Phillies are talking about pitcher Cole Hamels. According to several sources, but we'll go with Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly and Hardball Talk who sets it up:
"The Red Sox, Cardinals, Rangers and Padres are the teams with the strongest interest in Hamels, according to a report by Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com. The Yankees also have inquired, but only as a matter of due diligence -- they are not seriously pursuing Hamels, major-league sources say."
Now you're asking why there is no "serious" conversation. That's because the Phillies like Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Luis Severino and the Yankees know that if they try and flip them to the Phils for Col Hamels, there will be hell to pay. That's where Brian Cashman's job becomes really difficult. He needs to make a deal without dealing them. If he does that, he could be a true champion in the GM world. If he flips Judge, Bird or Severino, he'll be the goat and I'll be the first to call for his resignation.
By the way, the teams most likely to land Hamels... the Dodgers and the Rangers.
We shall see. Stay tuned...
