CUETO GOING TO THE ROYALS

After months of debating and negotiating and trying to outbid its competitors, it looks like the Kansas City Royals will pull off a blockbuster trade to acquire Johnny Cueto. It has not been officially announced, but Ken Rosenthal Fox Sports tweeted it out this morning with 4 simple words: "Source #Royals getting Cueto"

Yankees were certainly involved in trying to bring him to the Bronx. There were many reports of the Yankees identifying him as their top target, and with the Yankees' rich farm system, many popular names were in the mix. Opinions were mixed on whether or not Cueto could handle the Bronx and compete in the kind of environment that comes with playing here, and I certainly have questions. We also don't know what the Reds were demanding or what the Royals agreed to give up.

Finally, after yesterday's games, I was a little surprised that it was Cueto who went first. After all, Cole Hamels threw a no-hitter, and I expected the announcement of his trade to be hours away. Live and learn. Nevertheless, the Royals went all-in and appear to have solidified their campaign to return to the World Series. We'll see if it pays off.
