TEXGIVING
There is no denying Tex’s power numbers this season. Thus far he has been a true middle of the order threat to drive in runs and take dead red fastballs out of the yard. His defense is still strength and that’s saying a lot considering the throws Chase and Didi have made from time to time. In short, Mark is proving me wrong in most respects.
Hey, I can admit it. I was wrong to completely give up on him. Mea Culpa. I think people mistake my criticism of our 1st baseman as a deep desire to see him fail. Nothing could be further from the truth. I root for every player in Yankee Pinstripes. I just expect a great deal from Tex and have been disheartened by some of his play and comments in recent years. Now don’t get it twisted, I am not doing an about face on “Mr. Gluten Free”. It’s still May. He is admittedly in decline. Let’s see how he does throughout the year. Will a hangnail or stubbed toe bench him for 3 weeks? Time will tell.
Recently I had a little back and forth with our buddy over at Greedy Pinstripes on Twitter. He was saying that Tex’s recent heroics might earn him a place at my Thanksgiving table. A TEXGIVING in the O’Hara House? I’ll tell you what, if Tex can rake a .265, 30 HR, 110 RBI season I will personally invite him and his family to my place to kick off the Holiday Season in style. I’ll make healthy alternatives so he’ll feel at home…He can even jump on in and help with the early morning baking as we watch the Macy’s Parade and drink Bloody Mary’s.
That’d be something huh? We can discuss his much-improved season, why “Foul Territory” should go away forever and Greg Bird…kidding…about Bird anyway.
I am looking forward to handing Tex the craving knife to slice up the perfectly prepared bird…oh; I’m a bit of a cook. The O’Hara and Teixeira Families would eat, drink and be merry. We could take in some football, eat some sugar-free pumpkin pie and enjoy a pint of Guinness…hey, he’s earned it right? It’d be a blast...but HOLD THE PHONE! This is still very much in the “What if” stage, gang.
As of right now Tex is on the outside looking in. I will say I am giving it some serious thought though. That should put a big smile on the faces of all you Texians out there…all 12 of you. Take it easy, I’m just breaking balls. Don’t get all Tommy D in “Goodfellas” on me. I ain’t no Joey Bats…the gangster not Bautista.
So there you have it. I have openly admitted that I am wrong about Tex so far this season. He is not so subtly saying, “Hey Mikey O, pipe down!” I dig your fire, Mark. Keep it up. Give me nothing to say but,
“DEAR TEX, MY FAMILY AND I WOULD LOVE TO WELCOME YOU AND YOURS TO OUR HOME THIS THANKSGIVING FOR GOOD FOOD, DRINK AND COMPANY. HAPPY HOLIDAYS.”
But we’ll see…
** Tell ‘em, Chuck. Happy Texgiving, everybody.**
