The Yankees won because BYB reader Doug Stroup wore his BYB Shirt to the stadium last night.

The end!Call it whatever you want last night, but I was happy to see the Yankee offense finally explode. 14 runs against the Sox, and it was about time! Maybe they had a team meeting. Maybe they looked around the clubhouse and realized the talent they had, who knows. I do know this... we needed that win.
Masahiro Tanaka went 5 innings last night giving up just 4 runs. Those were the only runs the Sox would get. David Carpenter and Kyle Davies pretty much held the Sox down after that. Not sure if anyone noticed Tanaka's velocity... but again, it worries me. With the huge run scoring, people may not have noticed... but I did.
The run scoring went like this:
In the 1st, Jacoby Ellsbury scored on a Beltran ground out. A few batters later Alex Rodriguez knocked in 3 runners with his double. That opened the door.
Chase Headley then homered and knocked in Alex. Shortly after, Stephen Drew homered. Nice first inning.
In the 4th, Gardy knocked in 2. A few batters later Mark Teixeira knocked in Gardy on a sacrifice.
In the 6th, we exploded again. ARod walked with the bases loaded and yet another run scored. Headley then knocked in a run. That was quickly followed by a sac-fly by Drew to knock in yet another.
In the 8th, it was McCann who cranked one out. That was a solo shot, and that was it. The pile on was complete.
The Yankees did whatever they needed to do last night to pull out a victory. I take losses hard, even at the beginning of the season, but that's exactly what it is... the beginning of the season. Finally last night, we got a big win, and it puts things in perspective. It's early. We can win once in a while. Thank goodness... I was beginning to lose faith, and it's only April.
Final: Yankees 14 - Red Sox 4
