The Yankees just signed a first baseman to a minor league deal. Lou DiPietro of YES Network has the report:
"Yankees have signed first baseman Mat Gamel to a minor-league contract...Gamel, now 29, spent parts of five major-league seasons with the Brewers from 2008-12, hitting .229 in 106 games, but he has not played a professional game in almost three years; the Florida native missed most of 2012 and all of 2013 after tearing (and re-tearing) of his ACL, and although he signed a minor-league deal with the Braves that offseason, he ended up getting released in February and sitting out 2014 after injuring himself working out prior to spring training."
Sounds like alot of injury and bad luck to me. Look, I appreciate the Yanks trying this guy out. No one believes in trying to succeed in this game better than I. That's because I've learned alot at Bleeding Yankee Blue, speaking to numerous players over the past 4 years and hearing about their injuries and their journey to get back on top. I have a respect for what they go through to get back to the Show and stay there. It's hard as hell.
Hopefully Gamel can get where he wants to be. The goal is always to contribute and move forward onto a decent baseball career.
Welcome Mat Gamel. He's a Yankee now.
