I know what you're thinking... who the hell is Anthony Marzi? Well, we'll tell ya...
The Hartford Courant reports:
"Anthony Marzi, who pitched UConn into the NCAA tournament with a
memorable complete game win over Notre Dame in 2013, went undrafted
after his senior season, but he signed with the Yankees on Saturday and
will report to spring training on March 6.
'I
couldn't be happier with the way things worked out, and the
organization I'm getting a chance with,' said Marzi, a lefthander from
Berlin High. 'I've been a Yankees fan all my life. My whole family are
Yankees fans, and they're seriously pumped up.'"
And here's a fun little nugget; In that game verses Notre Dame, he struck out Eric Jagielo twice. Now they could be potential teammates. It's funny how things work.
The Courant also writes: "At Berlin High, Marzi was 17-5, including 9-2 with a 0.78 ERA as a
senior, and was twice an All-State selection. At UConn, where he often
had low run-support, he was 15-22 with a 3.13 ERA and 217 strikeouts in
299 career innings."
Welcome Anthony... go get'um kid.
