Great news for Zoilo Almonte fans. He's signed a deal to play for the Atlanta Braves. We all knew he wouldn't be a free agent for long. The kid's got potential.
According to FOX Sports, "The Braves made their first on-field personnel moves of the John Hart era on Monday, signing outfielder Zoilo Almonte to a one-year deal... Almonte, 25, made 47 appearances with the Yankees
the past two seasons, including 13 this past year. He led Triple-A
Scranton Wilkes-Barre with 18 home runs and 69 RBI, hitting .261 (110
for 421) with 37 extra-base hits and a .748 OPS.
In 690 minor league games, Almonte has a .270 average with 140 doubles, 88 homers and 396 RBI."
There was criticism of Almonte from fans when we wrote ZOILO ALMONTE & OTHERS JUST BECAME FREE AGENTS saying, "Well, the guy is done", or "Almonte never caught on." Really? The Yankees never game him a shot to blossom, and when he did do something, I remember many of us celebrating him, but more than him, we were celebrating the fact that the Yankees gave the kids a shot.
Look, Almonte could amount to nothing, but I'm a believer... and in the back of my mind, I always think, "What is he explodes?" You know who else is a believer? Zoilo Almonte. The fact is, you never know.
The best of luck to Zoilo. We're fans here at BYB.
Good Luck.
