THE BRENDAN RYAN "BAD BACK" SITUATION DEEPENS
So, you guys know about the Brendan Ryan "bad back" situation already. We wrote about it in THE BACK UP TO JETER IS BACK WITH A BAD BACK...
It stinks, mainly because Yankeeland's eyes are already on Derek Jeter ,meaning, in the back of our minds, we wonder if Jeter will last a full season. No doubt he will have to sit a lot this year in a way for the Yankees make sure he stays healthy all season.
It's Jeet's farewell tour, we can't have any snags. So, on the days we sit Jeter, the plan was to play Brendan Ryan. He's great defensively, and it makes perfect sense. Now though there's new info on that "bad back" and Ryan.
Jorge Castillo of the Star Ledger writes: "Brendan Ryan... is dealing with an upper-back injury that could postpone the start of his season. Ryan was scratched from the Yankees lineup Thursday night 30 minutes before first pitch, when he felt a pinch in the back. Friday, he underwent tests for the back, which showed 'something is pinching on a nerve.'”
So who's the logical replacement in Ryan can't start the season? Many are suggesting Eduardo Nunez who is still out there and willing to prove himself. Sure, the Yankees once considered Nunie to be Jeter's replacement, but that chatter has stopped recently. These days this spring, there are names like Dean Anna and Yangervis Solarte.
We shall see... won't we?
By the way, this week BYB will have a thorough analysis on who should be the replacement for Ryan. Stay tuned for it...and get well soon Ryan.
