WITH CANO... GET THE DEAL DONE!

Aside from injuries, and the terrible stroke of luck the Yankees have had this season, one of the most talked about topics have been Robinson Cano, and his impending contract.

There is no doubt that the Yankees will go into talks with Cano. To completely disregard him would be a huge mistake. He is one of the best second basemen in the league, and let's be honest, I don't want to have to play against him. The biggest obstacle will be the cost of signing him.

Yankees president, Randy Levine, has already made it clear that the organization makes no plans to give Cano an outlandish contract just to get him in pinstripes. "Nobody is a re-sign at all costs, but we want him back and we feel good about negotiating something with him," Levine said in an article in ESPN (HERE). Basically, the Yankees want Cano back. They just aren't willing to throw money at him to make it happen. If he receives another offer that the Yankees are unwilling to match, he can walk. And teams like the Dodgers can, and will spend that kind of money.

The Yankees have been adamant about wanting to get under $189 million. As it is, they have to pay $29.1 million in luxury taxes this year. It's a very huge complicated mess, that involves dollar signs, but basically they want to spend more responsibly. With the market the way it is, it makes sense. But isn't a player like Cano worth the money?

I mean, it seems like a no brainer to me. I like Curtis Granderson a lot, but let's face it, we have no need for him next season. He are swamped with outfielders, and with Ichiro Suzuki, and Alfonso Soriano at the corners, and Brett Gardner at center, it seems like a good idea to let Grandy walk. It will free up some money off of the pay roll to get the deal done.

There is no doubt that the fans want Cano back. He has been a phenomenal addition to the team, and a productive bat from Cano is a force to be reckoned with. His is, after all, the sweetest swing in all of baseball. Bottom line, I am rallying for the Yankees to resign him. The money situation can be figured out. I'm not saying to stick us with an Alex Rodriguez like contract, but pay him his worth. If the contract is reasonable, I see no reason why they should be able to negotiate, and make it happen. Cano needs to be a Yankee.
