KING NOVA BRINGS CONFIDENCE TO YANKEELAND!
You can't be jealous of domination in sports! You can, and you should be complimentary and applaud great moments because it doesn't happen often. Ivan Nova did something big today. He did something great, for himself and for his team, helping to lead to a 9 inning Complete game shut out win over the Baltimore Orioles... but it was more than that. Ivan Nova cemented his name in the minds of many that didn't believe in him before today. Great things happen to people who believe. Ivan Nova believed in himself and today, he went above and beyond. With confidence running high in Yankeeland, we can't be cocky... but we must be confident and stay the course.
Pitching a complete game doesn't happen often anymore. With the Yankees, the pitching situation has been mad tricky. We have aces who haven't acted like aces and pitchers who we never thought could pitch out of a paper bag are actually competing and dealing lately. Hiroki Kuroda, while he struggled in his last 2 starts, has been pretty damn amazing for us this season. Ivan Nova, is another. Lately, he's been our best pitcher and confidence is riding high right now... good for him...good for us. 9 innings pitched, 3 hits allowed, no runs allowed and 5 strikeouts. Good things are happening, and with the Yankees now up 2 games to 0 against the Orioles... there is no other scenario... we MUST sweep the O's tomorrow. What do warriors do when their enemy is at their feet? They defeat them for good.
The run scoring by the Yankees, while only 2 runs, went like this:
In the bottom of the first inning, Robinson Cano doubled in Brett Gardner.
In the 8th, Robinson Cano hit a solo shot giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Eventually they would win.
Final: Yankees 2 - Orioles 0
By no means is this season over Ladies and Gentlemen. It can still go either way as we are about to enter September. It's going to be a battle, a battle tougher than past battles. But what do we have? We have confidence. We have momentum and most of all, we have guys like Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte... Robinson Cano and guys like Ivan Nova. The Yankees are the Yankees because of the drive and belief that with the wearing of the pinstripes, victory will prevail. No, it doesn't happen every time, but it does happen when our teams gel. The only way we gel is if hitting and pitching work together. The last 2 games we've seen a come from behind win, and a pitcher who was lights out... and an offense that was able to deliver. 2 big games against the O's... can there be more? I say yes!
