"MOMENTS" TURN TEAMS AROUND... HERE COME THE YANKEES

I have always said that there is a moment that changes the landscape in any game and bring an energy to any team.  When a team is in a rut and it doesn't seem like there is ever going to be a light at the end of the tunnel... someone will do something to wake up the base.  Last night, Andy Pettitte woke us up.

It was Andy who started and it was Andy whose achievement of being the all-time strikeout leader for the New York Yankees that allowed our team to dig deep and realize that if you're out there giving your all... great things can happen.  We were jolted and we rallied.

Andy pitched 5 innings, gave up 6 hits and 4 runs. Not outstanding, but he stood tall and did something great.  After that, it was Joba Chamberlain who eventually got the win. Why? Because the Yankee came back.  Something happened on that bench last night seeing greatness... they believed.  The scoring went like this:

Robinson Cano homered in the first inning. It was his 18th. Next, Robinson Cano homered in the 3rd, his second shot of the night... it was a 2 run homer scoring Jayson Nix.  Then, in the 8th, after Pettitte's achievement... things were turned on: Travis Hafner was up when there was a throwing error by Jared Burton in a pickoff attempt at first.  When that happened, Cano scored.  With Zoilo Almonte then singling, Ichiro Suzuki scored. Almonte came around eventually...

Chris Stewart later grounded out but with that Almonte scored.

The 9th inning was what the Yankees were all about... piling on. Something we haven't seen in a while. Hafner singled to drive in Brett Gardner. Zoilo singled to drive in Nix and then Chris Stewart walked with the bases loaded... another run came in. Finally, a passed ball allowed Pronk to score... and there are your 10.

The Yankees needed this and with that, we hope to keep going. But it's those "moments" sometimes that make teams believe again.  That happened last night... I'm sure of it.

Final: Yankees 10 - Twins 4.
