REPORT: RUSSELL MARTIN SIGNS 1 YEAR DEAL

News from 1010 Wins Sid Rosenberg suggests that Russell Martin is about to sign a 1 year deal with the Yankees, and he may get a longer deal by the start of the season, although, that is all that is being reported at this point. Once I learn the details of the contract, we'll bring it to you here at Bleeding Yankee Blue. It's good to have a "Munson-like" catcher in that slot and Martin is it.

According to Erik Boland at Newsday, who spoke with Joe Girardi, the plan is to carry 3 catchers this season, maybe. That would be Russell Martin and Jesus Montero and include Francisco Cervelli. Read it HERE. My opinion on this is simple, Cervelli is not a long term guy, I believe with all the trade talk about him, eventually, the guy is going. That being said, it's good to see that he's in the Yankees plans, at least for now.

Once we get more on the Martin deal, we'll bring it to you.
