WHY THE 2012 YANKEES WILL LOOK DIFFERENT: PART 3

This is Part 3 of our Series: WHY THE 2012 YANKEES WILL LOOK DIFFERENT. If you get a moment, read Part 1 and Part 2. We now bring you Part 3:

Chris Dickerson: .260, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 SB in 60 games. Dickerson is a good 5th outfielder. He’s OK with the bat, and seems to have a terrific arm. Dickerson is hard to gauge, I’m still not sure we’ve seen enough of him. Having said that, he’s a good 25th man on the roster.

Brett Gardner: .259, 7 HR, 36 RBI, 49 SB. Gardner led the league in stolen bases and has developed into a decent outfielder for the Yankees. He may be light-hitting, but he’s fast on the basepaths and covers a ton of ground in the outfield. He hit well in this year’s division series. If the Yanks were smart they’d lock him down for some time to come, especially while his cost is low.

Greg Golson: .182, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 SB in 9 games. Golson hit .263 in 105 games for Scranton this year. Hope he likes Eastern Pennsylvania more than I do. And hey, if he needs some extra cash, I’m sure Dunder-Mifflin is hiring.Curtis Granderson: .262, 41 HR, 119 RBI, 136 Runs scored, 25 SB. Granderson had an MVP caliber season. The only knock on him is the 169 strikeouts. The Grandyman is a great fit for this club. He seemed to strive batting 2nd. I can’t wait to see if he’ll keep this up next
year or if he’ll drop off.

Andruw Jones: .247, 13 HR, 33 RBI in 77 games. Jones was a decent pickup. He played well and came up big when it counted. He filled the 4th outfielder role well and at 34 who knows how much he’s got left in the tank. If he doesn’t mind reprising his role as a veteran bench player, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in pinstripes again next year.Nick Swisher: .260, 23 HR, 85 RBI. An All-Star in 2010, Swish didn’t look right this year. Yet his stats are similar to the year before so maybe it wasn’t so bad. He is a favorite in the clubhouse and with the fans, but at $10.25 million in 2012, I’m not sure the Yankees will pick
up his option. I’d hate to see him go, but my crystal ball sees Cashman shopping for more of a power hitter.
