ANOTHER ONE GOT AWAY...

This isn't a big deal, it's just to bring you alittle closure  to the BYB audience after we wrote WOULD THE YANKEES BRING IN JAMES LONEY? ... Turns out, James Loney got signed, not by the Yankees, but by the Padres...

The San Diego Tribune reports:

"The Padres have agreed to a minor league deal with veteran first baseman James Loney, according to sources.

Loney, who will turn 32 next month, was recently released by the Tampa Bay Rays, who opted instead for the first-base platoon of Logan Morrison and Steve Pearce. Loney's deal with the Padres likely is for the $507,500 league minimum; the Rays remain responsible for the vast majority of his $8 million salary."

Look, the deal makes sense for the Pads, but it made a lot of sense for the Yankees too.  You know that even with Mark Teixeira as hot as his is right now, he's bound to get hurt, and Dustin Ackley dropping a perfectly nice bouncer coming from an outstanding dive and throw from Didi Gregorius yesterday looked bad.

I'm not gonna lie... I was thinking about Loney yesterday when that happened.

Whatever the case, what's done is done. Loney is with the Pads and clearly Cashman didn't feel it necessary.  But he should have given him a look... that's all I'm saying.

Anyway... life goes on.  Enjoy your Saturday.
