YOU CAN COVET ANOTHER TEAM'S CATCHER

 

It's not one of the Ten commandments... it's baseball. If the Yankees have Brian McCann, they don't need Francisco Cervelli. That's tough love. That's the thinking right now. The Yanks have Austin Romine and  JR (John Ryan) Murphy and they are probably willing to roll the dice on them as the backup role. I say that because no one from Yankeeland has stated that they are NOT interested in trading Cervelli. It's been silent. Once again, everyone is available if the right deal can get done.  And if there is an infielder the Yanks want, they may be willing to flip Cervelli.

 

 

Cervelli's has become more of a ballplayers the past 2 years. Last year he had a huge opportunity, but injury and the Biogenesis scandal got in the way of that.  Many fans wrote him off right then. Me? I was disappointed. But I'd be lying if I told you I didn't want him on the Yankees. I do. I like him here. I like his energy, an energy I feel is rewarding to a club and picks everybody up and gets them engaged in the game. For a while there, personalities like Michael Kay and Mike Lupica bashed Cisco for that energy, suggesting that he needed to "act like he'd been there before." That's stupid and I don't get that. That's his personality, we need to embrace that. Read an old BYB piece titled WHY THE YANKS SHOULD LEARN FROM CERVELLI'S PASSION.

Now comes word that the Diamondbacks like Cervelli and are scouting him "hard". I believe that the D'backs will no question have more playing time for Cervelli... much more than he would have if he was to stay with the Yanks.  George King III of the New York Post has that story and writes: "Barring an injury to McCann, which would be a lethal blow to the Yankees’ lineup, Cervelli isn’t going to reclaim the job... The White Sox and Diamondbacks have heavily scouted Cervelli, who is out of options. If the Yankees believe Austin Romine or John Ryan Murphy can be McCann’s backup, Cervelli would be prime trade bait for an infielder who can play third or second base, or a reliever who can help get the game to David Robertson."

 

 

And it's funny... regarding Cervelli's energy, King writes: "Once criticized for being over-demonstrative on the field, Cervelli is now regarded differently. 'He brings life and energy to the game,' said a talent evaluator for a team looking for a catcher, but without an infielder or reliever to give up."

 

So funny to read that.  We needed a talent evaluator to tell us that, right? Meanwhile BYB has been telling you  that since Cervelli's been pro.  The point is, the fans know.

Anyway Ladies and Gentlemen... big question here; Could the Yankees flip Cervelli? Should they? Tell us what you think.

 

There is no doubt though... I believe a trade is coming. "When" is anyones guess... but the scouts are on the prowl... no doubt about it.
