ARE THE YANKEES HEADING TOWARD HEADLEY?

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that the San Diego Padres will listen to offers for third baseman Chase Headley. Now, we've heard in the past of the Yankees interest in Headley even as recent as the 2013 trade deadline. It would be no surprise if the Yankees were to try and engage in talks with the Padres in hopes of a deal.  Don't forget, we still don't know what's going to happen with Alex Rodriguez and whether or not he'll serve the full 211 game suspension.  Either way, regardless of Alex's fate with the team, the smart thing to do is "cover their bases." No pun intended, but you get what I mean.

But getting back to Chase Headley for a minute. He is one of the better third basemen out there. Both productive at the plate and can hold it down with the glove in the field. He's balanced, and we could use a guy like that in the line-up. I won't dismiss he had a sub par 2013 season. It wasn't good for sure,  but it could have been worse. Chase hit for .250/.347/.400 with 13 HR's and 50 RBI's. This coming from a much better 2012 where he went .286 and 31 homers and 115 RBIs.  It's not really something to raise a flag at just yet. Headley is just 29 years old. Remember, we need to get younger so he fits the bill.  He will be a free agent after the 2014 season too.

There is one question though... Is Headley worth getting for maybe a few minor leaguers? Maybe for a year of his services?  I say as long as it's not going to dismantle the farm, go for it. But if San Diego is asking for a ridiculous package in exchange, then we need to look elsewhere, and thank you for your time. Realistically, they may never go to the table with this.  But hey, if Headley is being baited, let's hope the Yankees go and make a nibble.

Should the Yankees go out and pursue Chase Headley? Let's hear from you the BYB readers. Tell us what you think.
