THE MOVES THE YANKEES COULD MAKE NEXT

So, the July 31st deadline has come and gone. I spent my entire day off from work glued to the TV and my laptop looking for any nugget I could find about the Yankees and how they could try to make a move, ANY MOVE, to get this ball club help heading into August and down the stretch.

I was hoping for the acquisition of Alfonso Soriano and I was happy when that came true, but on July 31st.... by the 4pm hour, we looked no different.  I'm not mad about it necessarily, but I wanted to see that Cashman and the Steinbrenners were aware that something had to be done to spare the season.

OK, so now what? Is this it? No, it isn't. August 1st is usually the start of the "putting players on waivers" time of the season and that's where teams put in a waiver claim and hope to strike a deal with the team to lure him in.  Some interesting names do come up when teams put players on waivers. We still need help obviously and I know Cash is checking out the waiver wires like crazy. I mean,  you have to assume that we'll need another third base guy, if Alex Rodriguez has to begin his suspension and, you know what? We still could use alittle pop, maybe still from the right side of the plate.  So with that, I looked around and tried to see who would be some candidates the Yankees should get... slim pickins... here are 2 guys I found:

Chase Headley: 3B, San Diego Padres:  In the past, the Yankees were linked to Headley. He would certainly be a good defensive upgrade at 3rd should Alex Rodriguez's suspension happen. Headley could provide some help there.  He is batting .241, with 8 HR's, 35 RBIs.  It wouldn't kill the Yankees in the wallet, since he is arbitration eligible after this season. It would be a low cost, high reward move if he were put on waivers and the team bites to make a deal. Again... IF

Kendrys Morales: 1B-Seattle Mariners: Kendrys has been through injuries throughout his career which may have slowed him down a bit at 1st. That's not to say his days manning down the right corner bag are entirely over. He is a switch-hitter who can platoon with Lyle Overbay should we need a right handed bat on days we face lefties. Morales is set to become a free agent after this season and is making $5.25 million this year with Seattle. With the Yankees highly reluctant to spend, eating his salary wouldn't hurt. Interesting stat about Morales, since the All-Star break, he has an average of .385 and has 17 home runs this year. He can help provide some pop which is something this team needs desperately.

We need movement ladies and gentlemen. We could use some reinforcements if we are to go on any kind of run. Sitting in 4th place is not a place we like to be in. I want to see them battle their way back to the top or even fight for a wild card berth at this point, which is more realistic.  To do that, get some guys who can provide the spark, and who can maybe turn around the hitting issues we been having all year. It's not time to throw in the towel yet.  Anything can still happen.

Mr. Cashman, I hope you're hearing me. Do something...please?
