IT WILL BE ICHIRO FEVER IN THE BRONX

"Ichiro Suzuki is in the last year of his contract with the Seattle Mariners.  That being said, many believe that this season, after everything he's accomplished, he'll retire.  I suspect he hasn't done 1 thing yet...be a New York Yankee."

Dreams do come true.  I am and have always been a huge fan of Ichiro Suzuki and while he is much older, he's ours, finally.  I know what half of you are thinking..."Ichiro is an old man, he can't do it like he used to do it." Right? Wrong.  This is exactly what we need, speed, experience and the spark plug the Yankees need going down the stretch.

Look, Bleeding Yankee Blue was the only one who said this trade made sense before it was even made, and when I mean the ONLY ONE, I mean literally, the only blog, writer, milk man or dog walker to say that having Ichiro come to the New York Yankees, was not only good for him, but it was good for the Yankees. This is our piece from June, read ICHIRO IN PINSTRIPES? ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE. It makes sense and by the way, let me remind you, while we already have old guys like Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones out there platooning in the outfield, we now have a guy that is more athletic, quicker and more sound in the field.  That not only speaks volumes for how important Brett Gardner was to this outfield, but it also suggests that the Yankees are damn serious about winning it all this year.
Look, if Ichiro Suzuki was available to the Red Sox, do you think for a moment they would let him pass by? Hell no.  Brian Cashman is a stealth genius, the Mr. Miyagi of the Yankees. Cashman never shows his hand, but always accomplishes his goal.  Sure, Ichiro wasn't on anyone's list for trade rumors.  Even Major League Baseball didn't see this one coming.  That's the sign of a good GM.  Say what you will about Cashman, but in the event that Ichiro is successful in the Bronx, you will see Cash, much like Miyagi when Daniel Larusso crane kicked Johnny from Cobra Kai....Smiling and Danny wins it all.  Maybe the Yankees too can win it all.

Ichiro Suzuki will do his best in New York.  After all, he wanted to be traded.  And, much like I predicted, he wanted to be traded to a contender.  The Yankees are contenders, the Mariners are not.  Ichiro now has a chance to win a championship and if he does in New York, he will always be remembered as a New York Yankee long after he retires.  Ichrio just wanted a chance, and now he has one.  Trust me when I tell you, he will do this Yankee team good.  I believe it. If I didn't, I wouldn't have written about why this is a good thing... way back in June.
