WHY THE YANKEES DEMOTED NUNEZ

Big news out of Yankeeland, but I guess it's not a big surprise.  Marc Carig of the Star Ledger says HERE that the Yankees demoted Eduardo Nunez and have activated Eric Chavez from the Disabled List.

"After committing two critical errors last night, the Yankees optioned Nunez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre to make room for backup third baseman Eric Chavez, who was activated from the seven-day disabled list for concussions."

I like this move...I like it a lot. Here's why...

Eric Chavez is a terrific defensive fielder, Eduardo Nunez is not.  I heard Joe Girardi last night suggest Nunez may be making alot of errors because he's been moved around so often but come on, this is a guy that's supposed to be a professional ballplayer...I say deal with it. Too many errors can literally put you out of a job. Right now, Nunez is no longer a major leaguer. Here's Girardi's quote:

"We've asked Nuney to do some things that you usually ask more of veteran player to do, to play third, short, second, left, right..."

Hey, I was the guy that felt he should have been moved the outfield anyway. Read WHY NOT MAKE NUNEZ AND OUTFIELDER? Keep him there, train him there and transform the kid. I believe it could work, I really do.

For now though Nunez went down the AAA.  Let him regroup and train and maybe, just maybe he comes up at some point. That, or the Yankees trade him for pitching.  In the meantime, Chavez is up and back and you know I love this guys bat and glove.  If Chavez doesn't get hurt again, everything will work out nicely.
