WHY JORGE POSADA IS M.I.A.

Once the ALDS ended and Jorge Posada got publicly upset on camera, he vanished, and that not only goes for him, but his family base as well. It seems Laura hasn’t been on Twitter lately. To me, this family unit is as solid and strong as anything I’ve ever seen and I admire it. They probably went to some secret location to enjoy the family and just wanted to forget about baseball for a bit, I get it, and respect it.

I found it to be a little disappointed and maybe I just missed it, but I remember when Paul O’Neill played his last game in pinstripes, November 1, 2001, the entire stadium chanted “Paul O’Neill” because they knew it was most likely the end of Paulie’s career in pinstripes… but I didn’t hear or see that in Jorge’s last game. Did everyone forget? Are we fans just collectively being hopeful? The writing was on the wall, everyone knew it, I can't see how that's possible.

I’m not blaming anyone, but I was thinking about it when Jorge got upset in the locker room after the last ALDS game, seeing this grown man with every emotion pouring out of him and I thought, maybe we could have done more, you know? (Read WHY READ MEN CRY, if you haven't yet.) Why did we forget to give Jorge a nice send off?

Jorge Posada had a terrific ALDS and literally carried the Yankee offense, batting .429 with 6 hits a triple and 4 walks, but it wasn’t enough. That’s why it’s called a baseball “team”; one man can’t do it all, although, he did his best trying.

Posada was auditioning in the ALDS, perhaps for the Yankees for one more season, or for another team. But now, and this is just my instincts, the Posada wagons have circled and they’ll think long and hard about the next step…does he retire as a New York Yankee or does he turn the page and move on with the chance to be a catcher or DH somewhere else, for 1 more shot?

One things for sure, you need to give credit to the Posada family, they are a strong family unit and whatever they decide, they know the fans understand and support them and that’s what great about this decision, as hard as it will be, Jorge is loved…no matter what, his career was much better than expected and 4 rings later, he should hold his head up high…that’s Yankee pride at it’s best.
