WHY MR. FRAGILE STRIKES AGAIN!

Just a quick update on Eric Chavez. Chavez slowly was getting back on track after that broken foot in May. Things were starting to happen, Chavez was doing some light running and things were looking good for the talented, yet, accident prone ballplayer. Then, came a Tweet from Bryan Hoch (HERE) that said Chavez was suddenly sidelined with a back strain and we may not see him now for a few more weeks. Couple that with a report that he now has abdominal injury and I have one question? What in the Wide Wide world of Sports is going on here?

Look, the Yankees are doing fine with out Chavez, they really don't need him now. I just like the guy in pinstripes and I'm looking forward to him returning, that's all. It's crazy, I call Chavez the walking ceramic. You need to be careful with this guy. He’s so incredibly talented and to me, when he’s healthy, he is an animal on the field. Unfortunately, he’s got to go slow right now to get back healthy and then he’ll need to take it alittle easier on the field. I hate to say that because holding a player back because he’s injury prone is no way to play baseball. Eric Chavez knows that first hand, that’s probably why he’s been hurt so many times. This guy plays like it’s Game 7 of the World Series every time. You have to respect that, yet worry.

Back in 2008, Chavez started the season for the Athletics on the disabled list. The reason? Back pain. later in the season, in July of 2008, he had a shoulder problem. Then, in 2009, he went back on the Disabled List for back pain again. Then May 5th of this year he broke his foot. And now we're at where we are, Chavez was literally a few days away from returning to the big show and he tweaked his back again. That meant Chavez would be out another 2 weeks. Then today we find out Chavez now has an abdominal injury. Ummm... and you wonder why I referred to him as Glass Joe back in May when I wrote WHY LOSING IS A CANCER. We need to keep him in a bubble because when he’s on the field he’s valuable. I just have never seen a player as accident prone as he.

So the big question is, will Chavez recover and will he be back? I tend to think he will be back but only to get injured again. Chavez is a good ball player. We know that. Chavez knows how to play ball and when he's on and healthy, he's damn good, but the bottom line is, the poor guy can't get a break and I'm just not sure he'll be terribly valuable once he returns. But I wish him well and I hope I'm wrong.
