DEVIN WILLIAMS IS FINDING HIMSELF

Alright, credit where it’s due — Devin Williams, take a bow. For weeks now, Yankee fans (myself included) have been absolutely torching this man like he personally offended our entire lineage. We basically buried him six feet under the bullpen and started carving Luke Weaver’s name into the closer’s role in stone. But hey — Williams didn’t fold. He’s still breathing, still pitching, and now, actually… delivering. I admire that.

With Luke Weaver out for potentially six weeks, which feels like six years. Williams has been thrust into the fire again. And yeah, his first outing back wasn’t exactly Mariano Rivera reincarnated — he secured the W.

Then came Thursday night in Kansas City. Series sweep on the line. Pressure high. And what does Williams do? He shuts it down. Closes the door. And for a guy with a shaky start and a fanbase ready to boo him into oblivion, that’s no small feat.

Now, let me be clear — when Luke Weaver is healthy again, I want him back as the closer. No hesitation. The man’s like a caffeinated freight train, just hurling gas with no fear and no frills. Weaver doesn’t pitch like he hears us yelling from the Bronx bleachers — he just chucks. Williams? He’s got that "Am I being watched?" energy, like every pitch is a performance review.

But for now, Williams is keeping the ship afloat. His ERA is still an eye-watering 5.92, with a 1.36 WHIP, but he’s got 8 saves in 29 games and — most importantly — he's trending in the right direction. So yeah, I tip my cap.

Keep it up, Devin. Just, uh... don’t get too comfortable, okay? Weaver’s coming back.
