A BIG BLOW FOR THE BULLPEN

The bullpen can't catch a break right now and it sucks.

Yesterday the Yankees added another name to the Injured list, this time it was Jonathan Loaisiga and as soon as I saw it I felt like someone just sucker punched me. You can read the crappy news HERE, but if you don't want to ruin the rest of your holiday weekend then I recommend skipping that link.

Loaisiga will miss at least ten days with a strained rotator cuff and Aaron Boone is "hopeful" that he will be back before the end of the season but we are all a little nervous. Let's just hope that the cortisone shot helps and we get our guy back because we need him....big time.

There's never a good time for an injury but the bullpen was pretty depleted before this. Loaisiga has never been more important to the Yankees than he has this season. We've always believed in him but he's been the Yankees most reliable arm. He's struck out 66 hitters in 68 innings and only allowed three runs with five saves and a 2.25 ERA. He's been the consistent arm we've needed while other guys like Zack Britton and Aroldis Chapman have been the exact opposite.

Loaisiga's workload this season is the highest it's ever been in his career, which is always a concern especially at 26-years old. Boone says the Yankees have been careful in how long and how often they use him but we all know things happen even when you are "being careful" and the bullpen has been inconsistent all year.

Losing Loaisiga is a big deal because he's been a high leverage piece for us so hopefully he's back sooner rather than later especially with less than a month remaining in the season it really is a race against time. Missing ten days means best case scenario is he starts throwing again on the 15th and throws a few bullpen sessions before going on a rehab assignment. There's not a lot of room for setbacks or errors.

I'm bummed about this news, and the Wildcard race is tight. It's definitely not the news I wanted to hear on a holiday weekend. So I will be crossing my fingers and hoping for good news in the days to come.

Get healthy ASAP Loaisiga....we need you for the home stretch!

  1. He has a injury history with this and this being his first as a major contributor you kind had to expect it was coming..
The manager pulls pitchers early when pitching good, pulls some of them first sign of trouble, don't pull some quick enough because they are using MLB to rehab or they keep one around no matter how bad and keep using him first ad a starter now as a reliever. We have veteran players at AAA that can pitch better than Hearney and a prospect who can pitch better than Kluber but we don't use them because we would have to. DFA someone. We have a manager who rests every hot player when going great buy had played Gallo in every game as a Yankee and hitting .125. Time to as Billy Martin would say take a seat on the bench.Maybe because he is on LF and not RF but he has taken some strange routes in LF that has allowed some balls to fall in for single (see Sunday's 9th inning 2nd better)Time to play Wade on LF or recall Allen but Gallo has been a complete bust.I think a vertigo Frazier hit better than Gallo or one hand Andujar.
Boone has to man up and say to Cashman this who I want and take a stand.
