THE NEW GM THAT THE YANKEES NEED!

The Steinbrenner's have trusted Brian Cashman since 1998. They obviously like him a lot, but they also like to win. Well, George Steinbrenner liked to win at least. Supposedly Hal does too, but he doesn't have the same fire his old man did. If the Steinbrenner's do still like to win it's time to take a long hard look at Brian Cashman and realize we are missing the wins.

We can win again, but I don't have the same faith in Brian Cashman as I used to. I used to think "Cashman will fix it" but now I just think Cashman is going to break it again and again. I used to think he was a genius and could do just about anything but now I think Cashman's lost it....and I don't think he is getting it back. 

He doesn't know how to put together that dynamic team anymore. The magic is gone. I look back at the Aaron Hicks signing and still don't understand how on earth he thought a 7 year $70 million dollar deal made sense. I don't understand the $10 million annual salary but I sure as hell don't understand why you would give him seven years when he is made of glass! That's one hell of an overpay. Then there is the Giancarlo Stanton trade that will cripple this deal through 2027. We picked up a guy that can't stay healthy and only DH's now and we will pay him $218 million by the time it's all over with. 

It's hard to have faith in Cashman anymore and I really want to.  We need a GM that can do more than just get long term contracts on the books. That being said, I think the Yankees would be crazy to continue to trust him. It's time for the Steinbrenner's to revamp this entire organization and that includes a new general manager.

Finding a replacement for Cashman won't be easy but I have one standout name that I would do anything I could to get him....Erik Neander of the Tampa Bay Rays. It's the biggest longshot, but the Yankees would be crazy not to try. Neander has built teams that have run circles around the Yankees for years. He's smart and crafty and has had great success with a small market team. You take his knowledge and give him a bigger piggy bank to play with (wisely of course) and he could rebuild the Yankees and make them a powerhouse again.

Neander has a lot of experience that could help the Yankees revamp their player development which they desperately need. We know the Yankees farm is depleted, even Aaron Boone has admitted this lately when he talked about needing reinforcements in left field and Neander has spent years doing 

this. He has experience with player personnel, research and development, and drafting. He could build a team that helps revamp these areas for the Yankees. 

I think Cashman has enjoyed job security for too long. The Yankees are on pace to win around 81 games this season unless something drastic changes which we can't count on. I don't think Cashman should expect a pass at the end of this season and I don't think the Yankees should give him one. Neander is a long shot AT BEST. He's deeply rooted with the Rays but he has the qualifications the Yankees need. You can't get a "NO" unless you ask.
