GERRIT COLE HAS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR IN ASTROS CHEATING SCANDAL

Gerrit Cole started off his tenure as a Yankee stating that he had nothing to do with the Astros cheating scandal, nor does he have anything to apologize for.

"There’s nobody getting a win out of this. It doesn’t look very good and I guess I’m just fortunate to be able to be here and move past it,” Cole said. “And I guess get to experience all the great things about coming to a new team."

Cole was not on the Astros in 2017 when the scheme happened, and said he was not aware of only foul-play during his two-seasons in Houston. However, he does believe his former teammates when they claimed to not be wearing buzzers under their jerseys.

“I would not have seen it, or been privy to that information anyway, but I believe my teammates. ... I believe those guys,” Cole said.

As we know the Yankees do not believe the Astros when they said they did not cheat, but Cole said he hasn't felt any negative vibes towards him since arriving at Spring Training. Saying that as he did not see any of it, he has nothing to apologize for. Aaron Boone has also made it clear that the new member of the Yankees has nothing to explain.

"He was there after a lot of the specific things that we know were going on, so no, I don't view it as anything we've got to address with Gerrit," Boone said.

Scandal aside, Cole is excited to start Spring Training and the new adventure he is about to go on and wants to win New York a World Series.

“From a player's perspective, it really doesn't get much more simple than that. It's the dream to go out there every day and try to win every single time." Cole said, "There are a lot of moving parts and there's a lot of people that pour a lot of time into just simplifying that one theme: We need to win a world championship."
