YANKEES TAKE GAME 1 BIGLY!

It didn't start out like a memorable game.  James Paxton who, with zero experience in the post season went out there and was dealing. Sometimes confident... sometimes unsure of himself and the Twins are no slouch.  And when all was said and done, and 4.2 innings later, Paxton was removed.

That worried me.

I kept thinking to myself about what happens to teams in the post season and how you have to change their game plan.  It's a short series... not a full season. I was ready to rip Boone. I was tweeting about my disappointment for Paxton... and then... like they've done all season when we needed them most... the Yankee bats broke out!

One of our favs Ken Davidoff of the New York Post has this:

"...a few clutch hits, strong defense by Aaron Judge, a couple of dingers and, in a nostalgic acknowledgment of this rivalry’s one-sidedness, a crucial miscue by Minnesota first baseman C.J. Cron.




Yet maybe it wouldn’t have concluded so seamlessly (with DJ LeMahieu’s bases-loaded, two-out, seventh-inning double clearing the bags and creating a healthy cushion) had Boone — armed with data and recommendations from the Yankees’ front office, it should go without saying by now — not pushed all the right buttons in the grueling, four-hour, 15-minute affair."

SNY writes:

"Providing a spark out of the leadoff spot, just as he did all throughout the regular season, LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. "

And who could forget Gleyber Torres who came up clutch as well.  Yahoo Sports writes:




"The score was tied at 3-3. The bases were loaded. There were two outs. And Torres quickly fell behind 0-2. His battle with Minnesota Twins breaking ball artist Tyler Duffey, however, had only just begun. Torres laid off a slider, then a fastball, and then another slider to make the count full.

Duffey crapped his pants just now.

The next pitch proved to be the toughest one of all, a perfectly-executed slider that Torres was barely able to get a piece of to stay alive. Duffey went back to the fastball again as a result, and Torres made him pay, ripping a two-run double down the left-field line, giving the Yankees a 5-3 lead en route to a 10-4 victory on Friday night in The Bronx and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series."

A true baseball player in Torres to work that count and then finding the right pitch to hit. No one better in that spot. It worked out wonderfully.

Yanks are on a tear and it's awesome. Everyone contributed in some way last night.
