THE VOIT VOID

I can't believe that there was ever any question that Luke Voit would make the team when going head-to-head with Greg Bird all those months ago during Spring Training.  Now his team is feeling the void of his presence as Voit makes a trip to the 10-day-injured list.

"The hope is after the All-Star break, that weekend he’ll be back,” Boone said Tuesday. “Even the Sunday game in London, he was out doing his groundballs and hit and felt pretty good. But when we did the MRI, there was a low-grade strain in there. Just feel like it’s something we don’t want him to hurt any worse. So I think there’s a chance that he’s doing some stuff over the All-Star break with the idea that hopefully he’s ready to rejoin the lineup sometime on that weekend against the Blue Jays," reported NJ.com.

Recall that Voit winced in pain on Saturday during the London Series as he rounded first base into second.  We talked about the injury in THE YANKEES WIN BUT AT WHAT COST?, our post over the weekend.

I guess if you had a pick a time to go on the IL and rest an injury this is probably the best time to go.  Even John Sterling is taking a break to recoup and recover after consistently calling Yankees games since 1989.  You can read that piece here.

Voit is batting .280 with 17 home runs and 50 RBIs and he certainly will be missed no matter the depth of this lineup.  Plus who doesn't love a little Voit smile and passion as they watch the Yankees night after night.  The Voit Void is certainly in effect but hopefully it is not for too long.
