This week is a big week if you are a Marvel or Game of Thrones fan. Not only are we officially in the End Game, but the Battle of Winterfell will be taking place on Sunday night. So in honor of our favorite Avengers and warriors, I thought we could talk about some players that in my mind are fighters in their own sense.

For the Yankees, I believe CC Sabathia counts as one of these fighters, a Hulk of sorts. Sadly, he fell just short of his 3,000th career strikeout on Wednesday night, yet the team still came out on top. Sabathia also wasn’t quite on his A game, allowing three home runs, but there is always tomorrow for CC, at least for this year.
"This has been unbelievable, just watching what this bunch of guys have been doing, just the grittiness,” said Sabathia, who struck out three over five innings to leave him at 2,997 in his career. “It’s been fun to watch,” reported Newsday.
We’re lucky to even have CC back after he had heart surgery. No matter what happens, he’s been trying to just keep improving during what will be his last season. Especially with such an incredible milestone looming over his head, he just wants to be focused on one thing: winning.

"To join that list would be cool, but it's something that I can't really think about now. I'm focusing on making sure that I stay healthy enough to help the team win. I'm glad that I'll be able to get this out of the way kind of early." Sabathia said in an MLB interview. Hopefully in his next start Sabathia can join the prestigious 3,000 strikeout club, a great accomplishment for the pitcher during his last baseball season.
Another player that overcame the odds is Jacob deGrom, who ran away with the Cy Young award last season.
"I've said before that this was one of my goals. The team didn't end up where we wanted to be this past season, but you set personal goals. Being able to accomplish something that's a dream of yours is just something special." deGrom said to MLB.

Despite an abysmal season for the Mets last year, to put it lightly, deGrom never let that stop him for going after his goals. With a 1.70 ERA and 10-9 record, he led the NL in ERA and finished second to Max Scherzer in strikeouts and innings. He won the Cy Young award despite his team's record. He may be made of iron and I am pretty sure he can fly yet he has his aches and pains as a superhuman.
More recently there’s been reports of deGrom’s elbow “barking” in pain, leading him to have an MRI which, thank you Lord, came back clean.
As the season continues we can hope that our Avengers, Sabathia and deGrom, continue to have great success and hit all of their personal goals this season, leading the NY teams to the End Game in October.
