DIDI WON'T POST ABOUT HIMSELF SO WE WILL!

Didi Gregorius banged in eight RBIs in a wet, crazy and memorable home-opener on Tuesday afternoon as the Yankees beat the Rays 11-4.  Quietly, humbly, calmly and smoothly, Gregorius stepped into tremendous shoes at short stop and has been doing an outstanding job anchoring the new Yankees, post-Jeter.  As much as it was "The Didi Show" at Yankee Stadium, he won't Tweet or post about his accomplishments, so we will.

Gregorius kept the Yankees in the game to say the least, while Giancarlo Stanton whiffed five times, the most in his career.  And while the lack of offense continued for both Stanton and Aaron Judge, Gregorius slammed two, three-run home runs and a two-run single, picking up eight RBIs- this is not only the most by a Yankee short stop in a game but it is the most by a player in their team's home opener EVER," according to Michael Kay.

"It not about me, it's not about the records, it's about the team," said Gregorius to Meredith Marakovits in a post-game interview.  Without, Didi, we would be a lot less competitive and winless in our fifth game.

Not only did Didi's performance serve up a Yankee win, it gave new manager Aaron Boone his first win in pinstripes.  In his #TakeoverTuesday, Gregorius is getting better and better, hitting in a perfect spot in the lineup.  He will go down as Brian Cashman's best deal.  Gregorius has the most extra base hits by a Yankee since 1920, reported Bob Lorenz in the post-game show.

"One of those guys you're just glad is on your team.  We've seen a really good player get better and better each year," Aaron Boone said about Gregorius in his post-game interview.

Didi has earned tremendous respect not only from his teammates but his peers across the MLB. With more rain and more Rays today starting at noon on YES, let's hope the other bats wake up in the lineup.  But for now, congratulations Didi! Glad you play the game you love for us in New York! The Mets may have Todd Frazier but we have Didi!
