KEEP CALM. WE HAVE SEVY.

Stop me if you've heard this one before... A kid walks into Spring Training hoping to make the Yankees starting rotation. He's been there before and is expected to be there again. The only problem is the last time he was there he really stunk up the mound.

A funny thing happened though. He made it and not only that, he has flourished in his role. Luis Severino has given the Yankees more than they could have hoped for. In my opinion and others, he has been their best starting pitcher. In fact, just recently Newsday ran this piece stating that Severino has cemented his status as the staff ace.

"Luis Severino removed any lingering doubt about it, if there even was any, Sunday afternoon.
If the Yankees make the postseason, Severino will start the first playoff game, whether it be the wild-card game or Game 1 of a Division Series."

Luis has been great this year, especially in his last 5 starts. Remember when Cashman said they didn't need to deal for an ace because they already had one? Many people thought he was talking about Masahiro Tanaka. I think maybe in his own mystical Cashman-esque way he actually may have been talking about Sevy.

Offensive outburst aside, the story is Severino improving to 9-4 with a 2.91 ERA. Against the Indians, he looked as dominant as ace Corey Kluber, a Cy Young Award candidate who shut down the Yankees last Tuesday.  I look forward to his next starts as he has gone up against some of the leagues best starters this year... sometimes even out pitching them. This season Luis has given the Yankees what they have long suspected he could do.

It's August folks... and we're coming down to the home stretch. Having Sevy on our side pitching the way he does helps tremendously.  I can't wait till his next start.
