LET THE KIDS WORK OUT THE KINKS!

The media and some fans are killing Luis Severino, aren't they?  They ask these types of questions:

"Why isn't this guy performing like we hoped?"

"Is he gonna straighten himself out?"

"What's wrong with this guy?"

Everybody calm down.  This is a kid pitcher.  This isn't some player that was going to be an instant success.  This is a guy that the Yankees touted as the next best thing and it's gonna take a bit for him to get the rythmn he needs to get that done.  RELAX! Watch, the next kid they'll pile on is Aaron Judge... and then Tyler Austin, all because they're not instantly hitting .400.  The pressure in New York is ridiculous.  Everybody relax.

Now with Severino being pretty much called a lousy starter and being sent down to AAA to fix things, the New York Post has some wisdom with their latest article title: New key role could save Luis Severino’s lost season. Now here's the key question... are they right? Maybe. The Post writes:

"...Severino is expected to be among those called up from the minors in time for Friday’s series against the Orioles at Camden Yards after rosters are expanded and the Yankees hope he can help not only their bullpen but also himself.

'For the short term here, that’s what we need,' pitching coach Larry Rothschild said of using the right-hander as part of a bridge to get to closer Dellin Betances as the Yankees try to make a run at the wild card. 'And we think it will be good for him and for us.'

Not much has gone right for the 22-year-old that was expected to be a major part of the Yankees’ rotation this season after bursting onto the scene in August of last year. He’s 1-8 with a 7.19 ERA and struggling with his fastball command and changeup in both The Bronx and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

But Joe Girardi and Rothschild said they saw a different version of Severino when they watched the tape of him pitching 2 ¹/₃ shutout innings Tuesday against Buffalo."

So reliever is the new role, huh? Now, here's the truth... guys like David Cone and Jack Curry were the first ones to suggest that maybe a relief role for Severino was the way to go. He could gain some confidence this way and reset for the 2017 season.  And to be honest, I like it a lot.  Why? Well, because suggesting rookies are 'losers' so to speak is utterly ridiculous.  Some new kids in sports history are succcessful, some need to work out the kinks.

To be honest, there is nothing wrong with the path guys like Severino, the Iron Giant or Austin are taking. It's part of the adjustment process and if anyone thought baseball was easy, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd love to sell you.

Botton line... when kids in the Pros are young and struggling, you find what works and run with it.  The Yankeees are doing everything right right now, from trading away veterans for high level prospects... and from tweaking new kids into superstars. In the end, it's all gonna work out.  But patience is key here, folks.  Nothing is instant in this sport.  Somethings players need to find their craft.  And sometimes it takes longer than we expect.

Be Patient.
