Not that everyone has told you that our ace had a surgery, you're curious, right? Yes, Masahiro Tanaka went under the knife, but we did hint all season that something wasn’t right. Now that there’s been an announcement that Tanaka has a “minor” surgery, we can all be relieved. Right? Hmm… I just don’t know.
According to several reports, and we’ll go with the CBSSports.com on this one, Tanaka had surgery to remove a bone spur.
“The Yankees announced Tuesday that right-hander Masahiro Tanaka underwent surgery on his right elbow in order to remove a bone spur.
From the Yankees' press release:
The procedure was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and was completed as expected. Typical recovery time includes six weeks of exercise and strengthening, followed by a throwing program. Tanaka is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. The Yankees say the spur dates to his career in Japan, and nowhere do they indicate in their announcement that it has anything to do with the partial tear in his UCL, which he pitched with at the end of the 2014 season and all of 2015."
Hopefully with recovery time, things will be close to 100% by the time her returns to the Yankees in Spring Training. No question though, we are waiting for the other shoe to drop. We love Tanaka, but we are very worried about his elbow and wonder if there is more to this surgery that no one is telling us, regardless of the Yankees trying to get ahead of this and state that the UCL is not the issue.
The Yanks have always been secretive when it comes to injury, healing time, surgery, minor or major and all of that. Hell, look at the way they handled Mark Teixeira. They really messed that up, and it sucks because it was clear that Tex was having a fantastic year. Now, because of a miss diagnosis, or whatever happened there, you gotta hope he comes back 100%.
All I’m saying is, with this Tanaka surgery, I’m suspicious. Of what? Well, I’ll let you know when and if somethings happens next season with that elbow. Then we’ll come right back to this spot.
Anyway… get well soon Masahiro.
